In this tour we will take you to the Sólheimajökull glacier on the south coast of Iceland. It is only about 2 hours drive from Reykjavík, and on the way to the glacier we will visit the magnificent waterfalls of Seljalandsfoss and Skógafoss.

The Sólheimajökull glacier is an outlet tongue of the fourth largest glacier in Iceland, Myrdalsjökull.  At the glacier we'll enjoy the raw and stunning landscape created by the ice, with crevasses, ridges, occasional ice caves, and a whole arrange of ice shapes.

The glacier walk does not require special skills other than being able to walk on an uneven surface. The tour can be enjoyed by people of all levels in good health. All the safety equipment needed for the ice is provided, and after a lesson in ice walking, we will head onto the glacier to experience this unique environment. (Minimum age requirement: 10 years)

Please NOTE: This tour operates combined with our scheduled South Coast tour, and with the  South Coast and Snowmobiling tour. If you have chosen to book Glacier Hike, then you won´t be visiting Vik and the Reynisfjara beach. This also means that you won't be at the lunch stop, so you should have some picnic for lunch (in the morning we stop at a fuel station where you can also buy some food). There is also a couple of places where you can buy some food, but the offer is limited, and not cheap.

During the winter, we may find icy conditions on the areas we visit, and the weather may be extremely windy and cold. Ice walkers can be useful, and warm clothing recommended.

Please make on-line booking at least 24 hours prior to the departure.

For late bookings call +3548477218

We work with small groups, usually 19 people maximum, so dates tend to get fully booked rather early. Booking in advance allows us to organize the departures, so please, book in advance when possible.

Please NOTE. This tour can be combined with the South Coast tour and with the  South Coast and Snowmobiling tour. We go on the same vehicle to the glacier, where some stay to take the Glacier Walk or the Snowmobiling ride, and the rest goes on with the regular South Coast. After lunch, the group reunites again at the glacier. That means that a large groups or a family can split at the glacier, with some doing the activities, and some going on with the regular South Coast tour.

Frequently Asked Questions

Tours

-All the tours are operated in English.

-German, Swedish, Spanish, and French available for private groups.

-The concept is a minibus tour, with microphone commentary during the transit between stops, and once at the sites, free time to explore the location by yourself.

-All the tours are quite easy going, outside the Glacier Walk or the Snowmobiling (nothing extreme, but requires a minimum fitness).

-We have walks around the areas, but for people with mobility problems, or those who just don't feel like walking, they can always remain on the minibus for the transit.

Vehicles

-We operate the tours ALWAYS by Mercedes Sprinter minibuses.

-The maximum size of the groups is 19 passengers.

-All our vehicles meet all the requirements to operate tours in Iceland.

-In some occasions we hire vehicles from other companies, but always minibuses.

-We have some storage space on the minibuses, so 3 or 4 large suitcases, or a wheel-chair, can be stored on the vehicles if necessary.

Driver-Guides

-All of our staff are experienced driver-guides, in possession of the necessary licenses to transport passengers in Iceland.

-We put lots of effort on having good guides. We see them as a source of information, but also, and mostly, we focus on their human value.

-In case of taking several tours with us, we always try to have you with different guides. It adds an extra perspective to your experience.

Pickup

-We offer free pickup from all the accommodations on the Great Reykjavik Area.

-The pickup starts at 8:30am for all the tours, and goes on until 9:00am. So you just need to be ready by 8:30, and within 30 minutes you'll be picked up.

-If you are coming from the airport, we can also pick you up at the BSI bus terminal.

-We also pickup by the cruise ship terminal.

Payments

-We require full payment at the time of the booking.

-We accept all major credit cards, except American Express and Dinners.

- All cancellations must be made by e-mail and confirmed by Geoiceland customer service.

- Cancellations made with more than 48 hours notice will receive full refund of the payment.

- Cancellations made between 48 to 24 hours prior to departure will be charged 50% of the total.

-Cancellations made within 24 hours prior to departure and "no-shows" will be charged 100% of the total.

*For the cruise ships, the cancellation policy does not apply if the ship does not make it to the harbor.  In case of the ship not reaching the pier, you'll receive a full refund.

-We operate with small groups, so a few seats make a big difference for us. If you need to cancel, please let us know as soon as possible.

-The tours are available within the advertised period, but we reserve the right to cancel departures, depending on weather conditions and minimum group sizes. If GeoIceland ehf is the one canceling the tour, you'll receive a full refund. In case of cancellation due to minimum group sizes, you'll receive at least a 3 days notice, and we'll try to help you finding an alternative.

Clothing

-Iceland is a place with very unstable weather, so you can expect anything at any time.

-Bring your sunglasses and your raincoat everywhere.

-During the winter you may find icy walkways, so having a pair of ice-walkers is not a bad idea during the winter. Quite often we do have some ice-walkers on the minibuses that you can borrow, but not always.

-All our tours are rather easy going, so no need of any special gear, outside the Glacier Walk on the South, where you need some shoes rigid enough as to tie the crampons without hurting your feet. You can borrow some footwear for the Glacier Walk on the South Coast.

Lunch

-Lunch is not included in any of the tours

-We always stop at some place where you can buy some food. A picnic in the case of the Glacier Walk during the South Coast.

-The gastronomic selection once you leave Reykjavik is quite limited. So, even though the prices are the ones of fine dinning, don't expect any fancy places or menus.

-Giving recommendations about food is always difficult, and we have got feedback on both ends of the scale. Food being very good, and food being expensive and bad.
